The San Blas Islands...Ben's take......

Molly will do a nice job of summarizing our visit to the remote San Blas Islands.....by the time you read this, that post will probably be above this one. However, their are 2 special things that I wanted to point out about these remote, nearly untouched and remarkably beautiful islands from MY unique perspective.

One, the Kuna Indians that populate the archipalago are very kind...although they are also VERY short. Here is a typical Kuna home:

Here is our buddy Jose who was a huge help in getting us around the island:

Finally, and most "shockingly", due to this height difference, I found it often times simply dangerous in Kuna Land....these are power lines strung across a PUBLIC park!!

These folks eat well though.....I bought to fresh off the bottom lobsters for $4 and a 2 cold beers!!!
I LOVE the San Blas!!

  1. Hi there. Fun post. Thanks for sharing your experience! Do you have Minnesota roots? Wondering because of the Twins shirt. We are a MN family, about to cast off from Duluth/Superior for a voyage to Australia. www.svseachange.com

  5. We've often heard how beautiful the San Blas islands are, and how friendly the Kuna indians are as well. You're not kidding .. they are short, or you're really tall!

Sounds like you'll have a great adventure as you head back to Florida!

  6. Great shots, Ben! Cool to see your lofty viewpoint of these kind folks, the shortest in the world other than the pygmies. We also loved our visit to the Kuna Yala by sea kayak about 15 years ago....great to see much remains the same. Cheers to all the Knee Deeps from Nuku Hiva, Marquesas. "The Bravo's"
